About our teaching methodology…
Our teachers have been selected by Illya Zozulya and have completed a unique teaching course based on European traditions as typically applied in Russian piano schools.
Special attention is given to determining the stronger and weaker areas of a student’s skills and to tailor special routines that achieve a balanced and consistent performance.
In our teaching method we focus on three inseparable areas of piano playing:
◉ Technique – finger strength and dexterity is the basis of sound playing. Our students are given special exercises and technical work tailored to achieving true finger independence and agility.
◉ Mind – concentration and focus is the foundation of consistent musical performance. We implement precise methods to speed up the learning process of new pieces and introduce exercises to develop the memory and focus.
◉ Heart and Soul – bringing out the emotions of any piece is critical and we have developed techniques to unlock the meaning and feeling of compositions being studied by a student.
‘I was blessed to be taught by one of the greatest teachers of our time and my teacher, in turn, was taught by Regina Horowitz, sister of one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century, Vladimir Horowitz. This has allowed me to tap into the best traditions of the Russian and European piano schools.
Throughout almost 20 years of my own teaching experience, I gradually developed a method of teaching which allows students to have a balanced progress in three major areas of piano playing – technical, mental and emotional.
This includes a diverse system of many piano exercises that that target all areas of piano technique, particular ways to strengthen the focus and memory, and working on developing associative emotional imagination and philosophical aspects of understanding of musical compositions that allow students to get close to revealing the true meaning of the piece being played.’ IllyaÂ
